Race Report
Saturday
morning
Drivers meeting:
Drivers began to arrive on schedule and warm-ups began around 11:30am.
As the start time got closer, I called the drivers meeting and from it
came the question about controllers. It was apparent the a few cars
would perform better with a variable type controller rather than with
the house supplied 25 Ohm models. It was agreed that we were to use the
house controllers since only two variable type were available.
The next issue that arose was the one of what to do about the extra
driver. Not only was that my mistake, it is a mistake that has left me
feeling awful. Because it meant that he would not do as I had invited
him to do. To drive.
It was suggested and decided that we would continue as done in the past,
dedicate one driver per lane.
I spoke about the World Proxy Race and what the event was about.
To me it seemed that time went by too quickly and that I left many items
unspoken about.
Racing:
It was apparent from the start, that we would have some close side
by side racing. The first group of cars included the car which placed
second quickest in qualifying and the third fastest as well. Some great
consistent laps were completed by these drivers. It was apparent soon
that lap totals of 46 or more would be good. The Opel Astra of Erling
Brox completed 49.1 in the Yellow lane. This was a record that stood for
the whole race. Much to my surprise. Due to the fact that the car placed
10th in qualifying and that the yellow lane is perhaps the worse lane to
drive in. Still this Brox Racing Opel produced very good results when it
became time to race.
As the race went on we came to my second major oversights. My race
control software did not behave as I Assumed it would and so a problem
in scoring let itself be known. To which I became even more brain-dead
than I already am. The drivers quickly came to my aid and corrected the
race program to a more simple format and the race continued.
Soon it became obvious that the F550M of Graham Wendle was not going to
fall behind and it along with Mike Guthrie BMW M3 were even for the
duration. In the end of their round (round 2) they finished with only
half a lap separating them. Not far behind the front runners of the
first round (round 1). |
